A Message from Vera

To our amazing vitalxchange community:

Although we are in ever-changing times, we are here with you. This is a time when our country and our world is questioning and asking for a change in every one of our systems. Whether that be medical, social, or legal. The people are asking for a change in a way that is incredibly difficult and challenging for most people and requires more than what has been expected of us before. We must educate ourselves in a way that is effective and broad.

Our community is built on two ideas: inclusion and empowerment through health. Inclusion means more than just allowing others to join our conversations. It also means we accept those that are different than us and treat each other with equal dignity. We accept that we cannot understand other’s struggles but are support systems for each other. That we will stand with them against those that oppress our own. The developmental disability community is often excluded and cast aside; vitalxchange is a place where we can come together as a community of support and acceptance.

Empowerment means more than just joining the community. It also means being actively engaged and raising others in the same way that they will raise you in your times of need. You must empower others in order to empower yourself and vice versa. This is not easy, and that is why we are here with you on this journey. The vitalxchange team and I are also educating ourselves and changing in these uncertain times. We want to grow and change as a team and as a community. That means that we are relying on you to let us know when we need to change.

We are here for you! Let us know how we can help in these challenging times and how we can help in our mutual growth.

Warm Regards, Vera and the vitalxchange team
